About a year ago, I created a coloring book on the alphabet for little kids. It featured various cute animals representing each letter. After it was published, I got the itch to start painting in gouache for the first time in years. I painted each of the first three letters of the alphabet: A is for Apple, B is for Bear, C is for Cat. They all turned out pretty well. But I kept getting frustrated with the number of corrections that I had to make.

"Sad Panda" is the personification of my frustrations. A little panda bear bringing chaos to this painting and even tearing down the big P that was suppose to be in the background. His wild nature and frustration with his paints makes a mess of what should had been an adorable painting. The background is layered with a series of colorful splatters and other transparant effects.

"Sad Panda" was painted on canvas board using Turner Acryl Gouache paints.

1年ほど前、私は幼児向けのアルファベットの塗り絵ページを作った。それぞれの文字を表す様々なかわいい動物たちが登場する。出版後、久しぶりにまたガッシュで絵を描きたくなった。アルファベットの最初の3文字を描いた： Aはリンゴ、Bはクマ、Cはネコ。どれもなかなかうまくいった。しかし、何度も修正しなければならず、終始イライラし続けた。

「悲しきパンダ」は、私のフラストレーションを擬人化したものだ。小さなパンダがこの絵を大混乱に陥れ、背景にあるはずの大きなPまで破壊してしまった。彼の野生的な性格と絵の具に対する不満が、愛らしいはずの絵を台無しにしてしまった。背景には、カラフルな飛沫やその他の透明効果が重ねられている。

「悲しきパンダ」はターナーのアクリルガッシュ絵の具を使ってキャンバスボードに描かれた。
